Lincoln To Ponca Epic!

Here is a pic from the Lincoln to Indian Cave ride a few of us did last year around this time! Welp like MW said in the comments of the previous post we are planning to ride FROM LINCOLN TO PONCA STATE PARK ! This is the plan Leave Saturday in the wee hours of the morning 3 a.m. and head North parallel to HWY 77. The weather is suppose to be a little cooler and with the tailwind we should cruise into the park between 12 and 14 hours UGGGGh! We have two riders with GPS going so we shouldn't get lost. I'm going to try and route around any water crossing structures like the one pictured above:) Right now the list of riders are bdiddy,MW,JP,Wolfman,Bigmech,JRA. The only thing that is in limbo and could hold the trip up are shuttle rides! Yup we will need rides home what a bunch of slackers i know. If your interested in doing the ride get a hold of me I'll fill you in on the details. If your going up to Pre ride the race course or if your interest in going up to camp and need to follow someone up there and have an open seat in your vechicle to haul one of back get a hold of me.

I don't ever tire of seeing pictures of that bridge.

What's the guestimated milage?

Blogger mw said...

my ass hurts already.

Blogger mw said...
come on wolfman. the more the merrier...

i got a hard on already. well not really. oh wait. yes i do.

Yer all looney!! Mapqwest puts it at 172, but that's via I25.

Am I the only one wondering, "Roadbikes???"

Blogger Wolfman said...
mountain bikes all the way. 4 inches in the front and 4 in the rear to take out the harshness of the gravel and that tricky new white rock! i heard 91 degress and a subtle breeze from the south on sat. to push us along. hell yeah i'm in!! it's going to be 172 miles of smiles!

Blogger MOD said...
Hey now! None o' that 4 in the rear talk!

Blogger bdiddy said...
Mapsource clocks it at 123 straight line! That gives us 17 miles of goofing off to get to gas stations for food and then back the serenity of the gravel. That would put us at my estimate grand total of 140 miles.

The things you have to do to get an epic in NE!

Riding with goodfolks and stopping off for jerky and cheeze whiz and cokes sounds mighty fine. No 4 inches in the rear for e though.

That ride's going to take a LOT of Nerd Ropes!

Blogger Wolfman said...
whatsamadda?!! you boyz squemish with "4 in the rear"?!!:)

i think debaser is right on with the total milage of the ride...172 includes the ride at Ponca Sun. morn' on the trails...right??

140-172 .... what's it matter once you've pedaled that far ?

Tracy rode 163 miles on her silver Croll once....she had a sore neck for a month. good luck fellas !

Blogger mw said...
she rode that far in one day?

Blogger Wolfman said...
hey what do you guys think about leaving lincoln @ 4 to get up to platte and ride the trails until we get kicked off and head back to lincoln but 'zig zag' our way back so we come up with the milage we would have if we did the ride to ponca?? i could work on your living room, bdiddy! A.C., cold beer, hot shower and your own bed. maybe that ride would increase the number of potential riders...a thought.

wills...yep in one day and on a mtb too !!!

it was just a thought MW (cough, cough, sniffle) i thought i would just throw it out (cough, sniffle). rode to pioneers via the bison (cough, cough) to enjoy the cooler temps and decided (cough, sniffle) to test out my sprinting by the buffalos and POP!, (cough) i think i blew out my right achilles tendon on my ankle. damn, just before (cough, sniffle) the big ride, too! not only that, but you probably (cough, cough, sniffle) cannot tell but i think i picked up some kind of cold with the sudden change (cough, sniffle) in temps. it's a common thing with me (cough, sniffle) but i am going to try and be strong and atleast make the 630 MWC wed. ride tommorow and see if (cough, sniffle) i can't kick this cold and see how my left, i mean right, achilles tendon heals up with ice over night (cough, cough, sniffle). hopefully, i am still able to make the sat. ponca ride! (cough!)

crap! i woke up this morning to a dead microwave. i will have to work on that this weekend. i need it to warm up my 'hot pockets'!! those are my pre-ride meals. no pre-ride ham-n-cheese hot pockets, that's right!, no ride???!!!:)

Blogger mw said...
you can use jp's microwave. of course you'll have to move all the empty beer cans out the way...
