Sunrise to Sunset

I managed to see the sunrise this morning on the way to work and the sun set on the way home. What good day to be outside! I am a bit worried that the dust bowl of '06 is coming with 70+ degree temps in February. Got to see a bunch of familar faces this weekend. Got some good rides in on Saturday and Sunday. I even got out on the town a little Saturday night. Thanks for the good times RM!

Sorry about the power lines! Damb urban sprawl!

Cool little movie. Check 'er out.

parting shot

this is 322 almost at the end before you have to turn east at p.r.s.p....
even got some dirt

700x30. no prob. even got some deep stuff. i stayed on gravel most of the day. only hwy50 from hwy66 to louisville for the pavement. fairview and capehart road were no problem for the skinnies.
fixie gravel

was the order of the day. mmm.
Prairie Wind
I finally decided to grab this from that grabbing place. Sometimes I havn't connected with Mr. Young lately, and hearing reviews of this in the same league as Harvest/Harvest Moon, well, I wasn't convinced. After listening to it yesterday, instant classic.

did one of my last gravel rides today, before the road season starts. took havelock ave all the way to elmwood. if any of you have been this way, you will know that alot of the roads are dirt and you have to cross a creek. the creek should be easier now as we placed a nice plank across it. at 175th and havelock i met the dog baxter. i found out that baxter had been running with kevin and troy for around 3 miles, just appeared out of nowhere and was dropping them on the hills. well, baxter must have been enjoying his freedom, you see his home address was 57th and havelock!!. figure it out, baxter was a long ways from home. troy calls the owner, she calls back, "oh that baxter, he's such a naughty boy". the people at the house said we could use the rope in the truck. kevin ties baxter to the outdoor water pump(he seemed content) and we went on our way. i hope we didnt cause any problems at the house, the woman came out in her nightgown and her hair was wet(it was after 11am). no cars on our tip either, one creek crossing, one fast dog, one hot chick in a robe, one red fox and alot of dirt roads. until next week, when i get it handed to me on skinny slick tires. top

follow-up
on that LED bike light i built from a kit. the battery came. they don't have the wall adapter yet. so they sent a car adapter for the charger. so i charged the battery with the civic and fired up the light. wow. super nice beam pattern and light color. pretty bright on high. you can select the light level of the low and med settings. all three LEDs are on at all settings and they are basically dimmable in little steps. sweet. not as sweet as winning the lottery but pretty sweet...

Singletrack is not great for trains
Singletrack is great for bikes. The wifey and I made a 3 day weekend starting on Friday, starting with two days in the snow followed by one day in the dirt. Temps were mid 20's to mid 40's depending on the day, which was superb compared to highs in the teens at home. Not bad for a one tank of gas sort of trip.

dirt road pugs ride....uuugghhh

don't ask me why, but i took one of the pugs out for a nice S-L-O-W, uneventful gravel road ride tonite.....yep, nothing like traveling on level ground in the inner ring. But anyway, just before dusk i loaded up a couple of 12oz's, my camera and headed up the hill to watch the sun fall on another day. Anyone get out in the cold this weekend ???
a couple of pics for Randall..Happy B-day DUDE

had a nice herd of about 25 deer cross the fence in front of me tonite. I had to drop my beer bottle in order to get to me camera quick enough. Yes....i did pick up the bottle, no....i didn't spill.

Jeff Tweedy show

I was only armed with my crappy camera phone. Front row center, crazy great acoustic folky show. You buys in Lincoln should go see him Friday.

All along Pearl Street, Cupid was at work sometime last night. Every front door had a heart taped to it when I came to town this morning. Happy V-Day all!

wiring

this was also stressful, a bit. quadruple check on the wiring, and then shove the board inside the cylinder without snapping off the little electronic bits. the end caps just press fit on, again with some heat. hope i got everything right. i'll find out when i plug it in...
balancing act

there are little lenses that sit on the emitters. they balance pretty well. then you have to push on the end cap. kinda stressful but it worked pretty smoothly. heated up the cap slightly.
in progress

the first step was to wire the emitters together. they say not to melt the LEDs. ok.

ordered a new light. it's this one:
Adventure Lighting Products

and you can order it as a kit. which saves some money. so i am always up for a challenge. no battery or charger yet. that stuff is one the way.

Home sweet home.
New York is a cool town, a place everyone should see. But a week there is too long for this wannabe mountain man. I didn't see grass for 6 days, and when I finally made it to Central Park for a respite from the buildings and traffic, I see that jackball Ben Stiller shooting a movie. And roadies doing laps on the roads there. After a 9 hour day to get home Friday, it's great to be here.

Weekend getaway Montana Styleeeee!
Welp Melissa and I found a good price on airfare so we decided to head out west. We had to find out it that crazy white stuff called snow still existed. We went out for a long weekend to see the devalls. I'll throw down a couple of pics. I'll even try to throw in a pic of one of those confounded bicycles. Day 1 was a hike around Lake como. I liked this pic because you can't see trapper peak in the background. But I can close my eyes and see it for sure. The hike wasn't to bad we were on the North side which gets more sun so it was only Icey on and off. We lost track of time and it got dark on us and started snowing pretty hard.

Day 2: Up before the sun to get a snow ride in on the pugs. All of the cool kids have been doing it so I had to try it. We Rode up along rye creek for a couple of hours before the snow started getting purdy slow going. The decision was made to break out the coffee and snacks. We took our time getting back on the pugs we weren't really in any hurry it was Saturday. On the way back down rye creek rode was the first time that I realized that there was only one brake. Talk about a panic attack. I was holding on to the side of the bar with no brake and using the other hand to try and take a picture when I need to scrub a little speed. Nothing like grabbing a hand full of nothing when you fully intend on slowing down.

Day 2b:

Saturday night started early due to the fact that the local brewery only has a tasting room and by law the have to close the doors at 7 p.m. I decided to arrive fashionably late. Read Travel + Hike + Pugsley ride knocked my ass down and I fell asleep. Right when I show up I get the where the hell have you been your late then the classic “If you can’t play with the big dogs you better stay on the porch with the pups! “ We close down the brewery and heard a rumor that there was a mechanical bull on first and Main Street at the silver coin saloon. That shit was calling chaybo like nobody’s business. We get into the joint and find out it is actually a mechanical surfboard!? In Montana!? We got the hell out of there about as fast. On to the next place “The Rainbow” this place is always a party just waiting for you to show up. We pull up three stools at the bar and are partying with the chicks a few stools down from us. A few minutes later we picked up another in our party and we introduced ourselves and he did in return. Turns out this dude was Mike from Neb. City! We were like no shit hey I from Lincoln. Bartender get this guy a beer. Time for another Rick quote “Jesus H here we go with the football talk!” We entertained him and talked big red football for about a half of a beer. The rest of the night was a little bit of a blur after the shots and the free pitchers of beer that keep coming our way. I think the bartender had something for chaybo because every time he came back from the dance floor he had a shot waiting for him. I’m not sure how why but I kept dancing with the chic that must have been about the hottest High school janitor I have seen? Insert visual of girl with the British knights high-tops and keys hanging off of her belt loop. It was a regular old coyote ugly in there chicks dancing on the bar to sir mix a lot and everything? Should have definitely brought the digi for this little night out on the town. Some folks were in better shape than others while we waited for a ride home. It was snowing outside the bar and the mark of the snow angel was left in the middle of the street outside the bar. Thanks for the good times! The following pics are from the cross country skiing down at Chief Joseph on the MT ID boarder The crew that went drove out last April probably remembers driving past in on the way to Hamilton. I’ll try and post a few of the second string pics later.

Yo who's got my other 44? Heeee Heee heee caught ya!
