taking part of this timber framing has been an eye opener, it's like constructing a jigsaw puzzle, and you're not sure if the pieces can be put together until you put everything into place, and when you're lifting pieces of lumber that weigh in excess of 80 pounds or more, you really don't or can't take things back apart if they don't fit. SO, no mistakes please, check your tape measure three times before you cut. Also....if you can get everything cut to within VERY tight tolernaces and with the use of the 2" dowels you don't use any hardware to keep the structure together. No nails, no screws. i would be telling a lie if i said there wasn't any used...we used 8" X 3/8" lags to pull everything tight and to ensure that it stays that way.
