I finally listened to the wife and put down the bike and picked up the boots. It was a recon mission of sorts, where there's no bikes allowed, for now. I decided its time to start giving back a bit, and now I'm working with the BoulderMountainbike Alliance to try and convince the city to 1. Open existing trails in this area 2. Create more trail loops in this area. There's huge potential, and if we get half of what we're planning to ask for, I'll have twice as much dirt available for mountain bike tires an easy ride from home.

We went in to the hospital yesterday morning to induce labor for Mary and the baby. It seemed at the time to be a long drawn out process, but after the contractions kicked into gear, we had a new kid in no time! Allow me to introduce our newest daughter, and Zoe's little sister, Marley Allison Chase!

She was born at 3:45pm. 8lbs 12 oz (over a pound more than Z) and 21 inches long. She's healthy and all body parts are intact. Both Mary and Marley are doing exceptionally well. Hopefully, we'll be able to have the family all home from the hospital this evening. I'll update later!

Sunrise to Sunset

I managed to see the sunrise this morning on the way to work and the sun set on the way home. What good day to be outside! I am a bit worried that the dust bowl of '06 is coming with 70+ degree temps in February. Got to see a bunch of familar faces this weekend. Got some good rides in on Saturday and Sunday. I even got out on the town a little Saturday night. Thanks for the good times RM!

700x30. no prob. even got some deep stuff. i stayed on gravel most of the day. only hwy50 from hwy66 to louisville for the pavement. fairview and capehart road were no problem for the skinnies.

I finally decided to grab this from that grabbing place. Sometimes I havn't connected with Mr. Young lately, and hearing reviews of this in the same league as Harvest/Harvest Moon, well, I wasn't convinced. After listening to it yesterday, instant classic.

follow-up

on that LED bike light i built from a kit. the battery came. they don't have the wall adapter yet. so they sent a car adapter for the charger. so i charged the battery with the civic and fired up the light. wow. super nice beam pattern and light color. pretty bright on high. you can select the light level of the low and med settings. all three LEDs are on at all settings and they are basically dimmable in little steps. sweet. not as sweet as winning the lottery but pretty sweet...

saturday ride

was up in omaha. rode at lewis and clarke. just me. first tracks too. rigid bike. very low pressure. fun fun fun sliding thru the trail.

Singletrack is not great for trains

Singletrack is great for bikes. The wifey and I made a 3 day weekend starting on Friday, starting with two days in the snow followed by one day in the dirt. Temps were mid 20's to mid 40's depending on the day, which was superb compared to highs in the teens at home. Not bad for a one tank of gas sort of trip.

dirt road pugs ride....uuugghhh

don't ask me why, but i took one of the pugs out for a nice S-L-O-W, uneventful gravel road ride tonite.....yep, nothing like traveling on level ground in the inner ring. But anyway, just before dusk i loaded up a couple of 12oz's, my camera and headed up the hill to watch the sun fall on another day. Anyone get out in the cold this weekend ???

had a nice herd of about 25 deer cross the fence in front of me tonite. I had to drop my beer bottle in order to get to me camera quick enough. Yes....i did pick up the bottle, no....i didn't spill.

All along Pearl Street, Cupid was at work sometime last night. Every front door had a heart taped to it when I came to town this morning. Happy V-Day all!

wiring

this was also stressful, a bit. quadruple check on the wiring, and then shove the board inside the cylinder without snapping off the little electronic bits. the end caps just press fit on, again with some heat. hope i got everything right. i'll find out when i plug it in...

balancing act

there are little lenses that sit on the emitters. they balance pretty well. then you have to push on the end cap. kinda stressful but it worked pretty smoothly. heated up the cap slightly.

the first step was to wire the emitters together. they say not to melt the LEDs. ok.

new camera geek

i broke down and finally replaced, or should i say upgraded my old digital elph camera yesterday. I opted for the Panasonic Lumix FZ20 with Leica lens.......first couple of shots and i was like HOLY SHIT !

Can't wait for spring now that i have a new friend hanging out in my hydration pack.
